LIANG
WENFU CHARITY CONCERT 2018
|
Liang Wenfu held a full-house charity concert at The Star
Theatre on 26 May 2018 with special guests like Joanna Dong, Hong Shao
Xuan, Hong Wei Wen, Jimmy Ye, George Chan, Pan Ying, Taiwanese singer
Meng Ting Wei amongst others. It was a concert with a main purpose of
raising funds for 4 charities, presenting a setlist of 30 songs. The
concert brought on jazz numbers by Joanna Dong and much laughter as
Liang Wenfu joked with the audience in between numbers. He revealed
that this was the first time he has attempted singing with a little
dance choreography thrown in and was a little stressed over it.
Proceeds from the concert went towards 4 charities: HCA
Hospice Care, Public Free Clinic Society, Voices for Animals and SoSD
Singapore. The concert raised a whopping S$1,922,790 and with the
dollar for dollar match under the Cultural Matching Fund (CMF), the
total amount raised was S$3,845,580. Liang Wenfu revealed in an earlier
press release that his father was a journalist and his mother was an
acupuncturist. Both were very much involved in local communities with
their professional fields and hence he wanted to create a concert with
an aim of giving back to the community just as his parents had done. ∞

ELECTRONIC PAYMENT vs
TRADITIONAL CHEQUES
|
In order to reduce the stress
and loss of post-mailed cheques, royalty payments from 2015 will be
made via interbank transfer (where possible).
Hence, we will be progressively updating member
records so that eventually there will no longer be a need for members
to receive their royalty cheques in the mail and then find the time to

YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT
SONGWRITING COMPETITION 2018
|
Compass is
passionate about the Yellow Ribbon Songwriting Competition and since
2014, we have been conducting a course and songwriting competition in
Changi Prison for both the male and female clusters, trusting that
music will bridge communities back to the rehabilitated.
Each year, COMPASS is fortunate to have dedicated
songwriters who readily take up the challenge of providing the course
and mentorship when invited.
This year, we had trainers Rai and Zee impart their songwriting tips
to the participants, and together with Edric Hwang and Don Richmond,
they mentored the participants after the course with the semi-finals
held on 14 May. Nic Lee and Azmi Hassan followed up thereafter with
song arrangement, production and vocal training for the 10 finalists in
the finale concert on 28 June.
It was an exciting face-off between the male and female
songwriters with the Top Song and Second Runner-Up coming from the male
cluster and the female cluster bagging the Runner-Up title. After the
finale performance, participants got to spend a little time with their
families.
Judges Jack Ho, Danny Loong and Inch Chua were impressed
with the standard and improvement in the structure and content of the
songs this year. COMPASS is honoured to be partnering Yellow Ribbon
Project and we are tremendously grateful to local songwriters who readily
devoted their time in helping us bring this meaningful project to
fruition. ∞
